SESD TRAINING ACTIVITIES: AUGUST 2007 – SEPTEMBER 2008

Impact/Purpose:

SESD provides technical assistance and courses in the areas of Air Quality Monitoring, Hazardous Waste Studies, Environmental Crimes, Wastewater Studies and NPDES Inspections, Water Quality Monitoring, and Quality Assurance/Data Integration. The courses are presented to Regional, State, and local counterparts, as well as audiences outside of Region 4 as requested.

Description:

Each year, SESD provides training and technical assistance to hundreds of students. Training courses are presented to Region 4 employees, Region 4 States, Indian Tribes, Universities, Federal Agencies, and other audiences outside of Region 4, as requested, in the areas of Hazardous Waste Studies, Air Quality Monitoring, Environmental Crimes, Wastewater Studies and NPDES Inspections, Water Quality Monitoring, and Quality Assurance/Data Integration. During this reporting period, SESD conducted: one Drilling and Monitoring Well Installation course, two Hazardous Waste Site Sampling courses, four courses in the area of NPDES Inspections (including Performance Evaluations of Wastewater Treatment Plants and Flow Measurement Workshops), two Designated Approving Official (DAO) Quality Assurance Training courses, and one Region 4 Air Monitoring Workshop. Various training courses were also presented in Central America as part of DR-CAFTA commitments (Wastewater Treatment Plant Inspections, Inspection of Wastewater Dischargers, Activated Sludge Process Control). SESD instructors also assisted with the National Air Monitoring Conference, National PM 2.5 PEP and NPAP Rectification Workshop, National Quality Assurance Workshop, and the KY Division of Air Quality Air Monitoring Workshop.
