Impact/Purpose:

Water-based sanitation is not possible for all the 2.2 billion without sanitation today •nor is it sustainable as practiced today •Energy and fertilizer recovery from excreta/food ‘wastes’ can sustain a large part of ‘treatment’ costs/energy needs •Novel systems = novel microbial niches •what are the possible pathogen issues? (as one of the five primary sustainability criteria)
