VEGA, A. M. AND M. Bittens. US-German Cooperation For Further Development Of Decision Support Systems For Sustainable Contaminated Site Revitalization - Berlin, Germany, Sept. 24, 2008. Presented at 5th BMBF Forum For Sustainability - Research For Sustainability - Driver For Innovation, Berlin, GERMANY, September 23 - 25, 2008.

Impact/Purpose:

To introduce a collaborative effort to the conference participants. This collaborative effort would be the result of the German Helmholtz Centre for Environment Research (UFZ) deciding to enter into a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) with EPA to develop a mirror image of SMARTe in Germany (DE.SMARTe).

Description:

SMARTe (Sustainable Management Approaches and Revitalization Tools - electronic) is a web-based decision support tool developed by the Office of Research and Development (ORD) in partnership with the Office of Brownfields and Land Revitalization (OBLR), the Interstate Technology Regulatory Council (ITRC) and the German Federal Ministry for Education and Research (BMBF). SMARTe contains information, links, analysis tools, checklists, and case studies to help users overcome obstacles to site revitalization. It can be found at www.smarte.org and is freely available to the public. In May 2008, SMARTe was introduced to representatives of the German Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Research (UFZ). As a result of this meeting, UFZ decided to enter into a Cooperative Research and Development Agreement (CRADA) with EPA to develop a mirror image of SMARTe in Germany called DE.SMARTe. The subject presentation will introduce this collaborative effort to conference participants.
