Description:
The first Pd-N-heterocyclic carbene (NHC) complex in the form of organic silica is prepared using sol-gel method and its application in Heck and Suzuki reactions are demonstrated. These C-C coupling reactions proceeded efficiently under the influence of microwave irradiation, with excellent yields, without any change in catalytic activity for at least five reaction cycles, with negligible Pd concentration in the end product. Thus, we have developed a new concept for the design and synthesis of highly active and recyclable heterogenised Pd-NHC catalysts in the form of organic silica, which does not use any inorganic sol-gel precursor and most of its sites are catalytically active. This work could shed new light on transition-metal catalysis.
