Impact/Purpose:

The emphasis of this research is to assess exposure to pesticides, toxics, and their transformation products from consuming potable water that has undergone either chemical disinfection and/or lime softening.

Description:

The fate of organophosphorus (OP) pesticides in the presence of chlorinated oxidants was investigated under drinking water treatment conditions. In the presence of aqueous chlorine, intrinsic rate coefficients were found for the reaction of hypochlorous acid and hypochlorite ion with eight OP pesticides.
