Description:

The mission of the Sustainable Technology Division is to advance the scientific understanding, development and application of technologies and methods for prevention, removal and control of environmental risks to human health and ecology. The Division is organized into four branches. These are: Clean Processes and Products Branch--The major technical programs within this Branch are in the areas of metal finishing and electronics pollution prevention, cleaner alternatives for solvents and coatings, green engineering for chemical synthesis, and separations technologies for removal and recycling, specifically membranes for solvents and low-cost adsorbents for metals. Industrial Multimedia Branch--The major technical programs within the Branch are environmental technology verification, mine waste technology, metal finishing pollution prevention, electronics common sense initiative support, metal forming, lead paint abatement, and base catalyzed dechlorination for contaminated soil remediation. Systems Analysis Branch--The major technical activities within the Branch are in the areas of life cycle assessment, cost engineering and cost benefit, chemical simulation and measurement and Federal facility pollution prevention. Sustainable Environments Branch--The major activities in this Branch include environmental systems management, sustainable systems theory, environmental economics, and watershed modeling.
