The Air Pollution Prevention and Control Division (APPCD), located in Research Triangle Park, NC, is part of the National Risk Management Research Laboratory (NRMRL), which is headquartered in Cincinnati, OH. APPCD researches, develops, and demonstrates air pollution prevention and control technologies for manufacturing and processing industries, power plants, incinerators, indoor environments, and sources of greenhouse gases. Research includes characterization and assessment of all sources of air pollution and verification of the performance of innovative technologies. The Division collaborates with other divisions, national laboratories, program offices, regions, and other federal agencies to develop solutions for cost-effective air pollution prevention and control technologies. APPCD maintains a close working relationship with trade and professional organizations, industry, and academia to design and develop innovative pollution management methodologies. APPCD is also involved in international clean technology development projects. As part of their collaborative efforts, APPCD actively participates in the Environmental Technology Verification (ETV) program. ETV's purpose is to verify the performance of innovative technical solutions to problems that threaten human health or the environment. Managed by EPA's Office of Research and Development, ETV was created to substantially accelerate the entrance of new environmental technologies into the domestic and international marketplace. APPCD is concentrating its efforts in six main program areas: air toxics, fine particles, indoor air quality, ozone non-attainment/NOX and volatile organic compounds (VOC),global climate change, and environmental technology verification.
