Feasibility of Community Food Item Collection for the National Children's Study. Impact/Purpose:
The purpose of this study is to assess the feasibility of the community food item collection methodology; specifically, to determine whether at least 60% of subjects enrolled in the study provide at least one of the child food items selected for collection.
Description:
The National Children’s Study proposes to investigate the role of contaminants on health outcomes in pregnant women and children. A specific area of concern is contaminant exposure through the ingestion of solid foods. National food contaminant databases may miss environmental exposures unique to specific communities. Therefore, alternative sampling procedures are proposed to capture contributing environmental exposures on a household level, such as storage, preparation, and consumption in the residence.
