Conditional Probability Analysis: A Statistical Tool for Environmental Analysis.

Impact/Purpose:

In this presentation, CPA will be illustrated through simple examples.

Description:

The use and application of environmental conditional probability analysis (CPA) is relatively recent. The first presentation using CPA was made in 2002 at the New England Association of Environmental Biologists Annual Meeting in Newport. Rhode Island. CPA has been used since then for predictive modeling, determination of candidate water quality criteria, stressor identification (diagnostics), and regional scale ecological risk estimation. In this presentation, CPA will be illustrated through simple examples. Since CPA’s use as a statistical tool is increasing, it is important to note that the biological significance of possible thresholds identified with this tool must be assessed, as a necessary step in the application of CPA.
