The time line of events that lead to the creation of the US EPA are marked by grassroots efforts by average citizens voicing concerns to politicians in Washington. Visionary leadership by Congress and the President led to the birth of a Federal Agency dedicated to protecting human health and the environment. The successes of the US EPA are many and today the US EPA is advancing scientific knowledge leading to regulatory enforcement and sound policy development. Additionally, the US EPA will play an important role in the future of the new century.
