IRIS Toxicological Review of 2-Hexanone (External Review Draft)
[09/25/09] UPDATE: As per the new IRIS process, all comments received from federal agencies and White House offices on draft IRIS assessments will be made publicly available. Accordingly, interagency comments and the interagency draft of the 2-Hexanone IRIS assessment will be available on this website on or before October 14, 2009.
[04/23/08] EPA announced the External Peer Review Meeting to be held on May 22, 2008 in an April 23, 2008 Federal Register Notice.
[03/03/08] EPA announced the release of the Toxicological Review of 2-Hexanone in the March 3, 2008 Federal Register Notice. This draft assessment is provided for public viewing and comment. Public comments received on the Toxicological Review within the external review period (next 60 days) will be provided to the external peer reviewers prior to the meeting for their consideration. Any comments not received within the requested time period will be considered by EPA in their revisions.

Impact/Purpose:
2-Hexanone was nominated for IRIS assessment because of its frequent detection at sites nation-wide and its occurrence as a byproduct of certain industrial processes.
Description:
EPA is conducting a peer review of the scientific basis supporting the human health hazard and dose-response assessment of 2-hexanone that will appear on the Integrated Risk Information System (IRIS) database. Peer review is meant to ensure that science is used credibly and appropriately in derivation of the dose-response assessments and toxicological characterization.
