Description:
Since the passage of the National Environmental Policy Act in 1970, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, other federal agencies, and the states have made substantial progress in improving the Nation’s air and water quality. Traditionally, the air, land, and water pollution control programs are managed rather independently of each other, in part, due to differing funding allocations and separate sets of rules and regulations. Several articles in this EM issue discuss the need for integrated assessments of air, land, and water pollution and the resulting challenges confronting the environmental managers.
