UPDATE ON MONITORED NATURAL ATTENUATION (MNA) FOR INORGANICS

Citation:

FORD, R. UPDATE ON MONITORED NATURAL ATTENUATION (MNA) FOR INORGANICS. Presented at OSWER/ORD Seminar Series, Arlington, VA, September 25, 2007.

Impact/Purpose:

To inform the public.

Description:

Monitored Natural Attenuation (MNA) is a knowledge-based remediation technology for contaminants in ground water. MNA is more frequently being considered for reduction of risk from metals and other inorganic contaminants in ground water at waste sites. ORD is developing a series of technical resource documents (TRDs), in cooperation with OSRTI and ORIA, that outline approaches to site characterization to support selection of MNA as part of the remedy for ground-water cleanup. The first two volumes addressing non-radioactive inorganic contaminants are scheduled for publication this year. ORD has conducted a series of one-day workshops at several Regional Offices to support the roll-out of these documents. This seminar will highlight some of the noteworthy aspects and elements of these TRDs and the one day workshop.
