IONIZING RADIATION EXPOSURE OF THE POPULATION OF THE U.S.

Citation:

IONIZING RADIATION EXPOSURE OF THE POPULATION OF THE U.S.

Impact/Purpose:

Average background radiation doses to the public provide a useful benchmark for describing how any particular source of activity compares to the unavoidable dose that an average member of the public receives. Having an unbiased reference for this information is useful across the government and private sector.

Description:

This report updates information published by the National Council on Radiation Protection and Measurements (NCRP) in 1987. NCRP reports are considered the authoritative reference for the sources and magnitude of average background exposure to the U.S. population.
