HANSEN, V. E. FINAL MASTER PLAN FOR STELLA, MISSOURI. Presented at Final Master Plan for Stella, Missouri, Stella, MO, May 24, 2007.

Impact/Purpose:

to present information

Description:

The application of sustainability to place is the outcome of responding to human needs and expectations within economic, social, and environmental constraints and desired performance of these systems. These constraints and performance requirements of these systems provides a way to measure whether land-use decisions to meet human goals are appropriate in the long term. Our first application of this strategy is to develop a master plan for the town of Stella, Missouri. A public meeting was held in August 2006 where/when the community was encouraged to inform us of their needs, wants, and values. We used community input to guide planning responses and used the essential attributes of economic, social, and environmental systems to evaluate whether planning responses were sufficient to keep economic, social, and natural systems intact. Planning responses that meet citizen objectives and systems integrity were illustrated graphically on a draft master development plan and presented to citizens on 20 February 2007. Citizen feedback from that presentation was then responded to in a final plan that is the subject of this presentation.
