ANTHRAX TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE DOCUMENT

Citation:

Impact/Purpose:

The Antrax Technical Document (ATD) is to help protect public health and safety by providing the most current information available throughout the federal government, and sharing national experience to date in responding to intentional releases of B. anthracis in urban environments. This document was created with the intention that it will be dynamic. That is, it will be updated on a periodic basis to reflect new knowledge based on further experience and the results of relevant research.

Description:

The Anthrax TAD was developed as an Interim Draft Final technical resource in November 2003. It is specifically for response to an actual or suspected terrorist release of anthrax (i.e., it is not intended for response to anthrax in agricultural settings.). The TAD was provided a limited update in July 2005 with the addition of a new Appendix E – Guidelines for Discharging Anthrax Decontamination Wastewater to Publicly Owned Treatment Works (POTWs). The NRT recently tasked the Weapons of Mass Destruction (WMD) subcommittee to the Science and Technology Committee to revise and update the Anthrax TAD. The November 2005 and July 2005 versions are still Interim Draft Final documents. The WMD subcommittee would like to develop this revision by consulting with the SAB during the revision process and then asking the SAB to conduct a thorough multi-agency review of the document. Some of the signatory agencies will be able to provide additional technical experts to participate in this SAB review too. The WMD subcommittee will complete the second draft of the the TAD revision in October 2008. The WMD subcommittee will consult with the SAB sometime early 2009 and get NRT and member agency review by June 2009. Final document is expected in Sept 2010.
