Description:

Pyrethroids are a synthetic class of pesticides that elicit neurobehavioral effects in mammals. They are applied occupationally and residentially creating the potential for human exposure. Determining relationships between parent pyrethroid tissue concentrations and neurotoxic effects will enable us to determine if tissue concentration can be used as a dose metric during species extrapolation. Pyrethroids are readily metabolized into products with decreased toxic potency. Therefore, it is vital to estimate the concentration of the parent compounds in target tissues. Since pyrethroids exist in the environment matrixes in ¿g/g concentrations, tissue concentrations following exposure will be in the order of pg/g. The objective of this study is to demonstrate a 2D LC/MS/MS method capable of determining pyrethroid concentrations in rodent tissue extracts at pg/g concentrations.
