Impact/Purpose:

to help develop nutrient criteria for the Yaquina Estuary, Oregon

Description:

NHEERL scientists have developed an approach that could be used by the State of Oregon for development of nutrient and other water quality criteria for the Yaquina Estuary, Oregon. The principle objective in setting protective criteria is to prevent future degradation of estuarine water quality and the accompanying loss of beneficial uses from the system. The proposed criteria approach is based on a synthesis of research results derived from field sampling at multiple temporal and spatial scales, assembling data to construct trends in water quality parameters, and a variety of modeling approaches.
