RAIMONDO, SANDY, D. VIVIAN, AND M. G. BARRON. WEB-BASED INTERSPECIES CORRELATION ESTIMATION (WEB-ICE) FOR ACUTE TOXICITY: USER MANUAL V2. U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Washington, DC, EPA/600/R-07/071, 2007.

Impact/Purpose:

Predictive toxicological models are integral to environmental risk Assessment where data for most species are limited.

Description:

Predictive toxicological models are integral to environmental risk Assessment where data for most species are limited. Web-based Interspecies Correlation Estimation (Web-ICE) models are least square regressions that predict acute toxicity (LC50/LD50) of a chemical to a species, genus, or family from know toxicity of a surrogate species. Web-ICE includes models for aquatic wildlife taxa. Overall for wildlife species, Web-ICE predicts toxicity within 5-fold of the actual value with 85% certainty and within 10-fold of the actual value with 95% certainty. Models are most accurate for species within a genus and family, with increasing uncertainty with greater taxonomic distance.
