Citation:

LOBDELL, D. T. U.S. EPA ACCOUNTABILITY RESEARCH. Presented at RTI International Environmental Seminar Series, Research Triangle Park, NC, October 19, 2006.

Description:

The Office of Research and Development (ORD) has implemented a program to develop and validate environmental public health indicators. These indicators are intended to reflect the impact on public health that results from environmental decision-making and to help clarify the benefits and costs associated with further environmental improvements. This effort is termed 'accountability' to highlight the Agency's desire to be more accountable to the public by demonstrating true environmental progress. The overall goal of ORD's Accountability Research Program is to develop tools, methodologies and models that can be applied to the evaluation of the Agency's regulatory and environmental management programs. This presentation will describe the accountability program as well as provide some research examples that are currently on-going.
