TOTAL MAXIMUM DAILY LOAD (TMDL) FIELD PROJECTS: OCTOBER 2005 – SEPTEMBER 2006

Impact/Purpose:

The EPA Region 4 Water Division uses water quality monitoring data obtained by the Region 4 Science and Ecosystem Support Division (SESD) for various categories of pollutants (including nutrients, toxics, and sediment) at selected, listed streams in the southeastern United States with the objective of completing the Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) required for the listed water body.

Description:

Region 4 SESD’s Total Maximum Daily Load (TMDL) activities include a field investigation study plan and a subsequent report with data generated from the field project. The data are used to establish pollutant discharge limits for various categories of pollutants (nutrients, toxics, sediment) for the selected water body. These projects follow Region 4 Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) with regard to the collection and analysis of field data. For this reporting period, SESD conducted approximately 27 TMDL-related field projects.
