DICKINSON BAY AND TABBS BAY DEBRIS REMOVAL AND RESTORATION MX964239
Impact/Purpose:
The work proposed in this project will remove marine debris from a critical habitat area. Abandoned barges, scuttled shrimp boats, old oil field equipment, and other illegally dumped debris will be removed from the area as well as restoration of intertidal marsh habitats, and education of the public regarding the impacts of dumping in wetland habitats. The activities described within this cooperative agreement are authorized by Section 104(b)(3) of the Clean Water Act and support the Gulf Coastal states in studies related to the causes, effects, extent, prevention, reduction and elimination of pollution.
Description:
This project will fund removal of marine debris which poses a hazard to navigation and fishermen as well as impedes proper circulation in Dickinson Bay and Tabbs Bay. There is also concern that residual oil or fuel may be found in the abandoned vessels and oil field structures which makes this a critical habitat project.
