Impact/Purpose:

This Cooperative agreement is authorized by section 104(b) (3) of the Clean Water Act. North Deer Island Protection and Restoration Project, Phase I, was initiated in March of 2003 and completed in May 2003. The main objective of Phase II will be protecting an additional 80 acres of island habitat from erosion and restore 10 acres of estuarine marsh through a system of rock breakwater, rock groin (jetty) structures and shoreline reventment.

Description:

This is a demonstration project for erosion control on the northwestern portion of North Deer Island. This project will complement additional erosion fighting efforts along the Gulf Intracoastal Waterway.
