Citation:

ACQUISTO, B. ACTIVE PEC APPLICATIONS, THE PEC WEBSITE, AND SLUDGE STABILITY RESEARCH. Presented at 8th Annual National Biosolids Coordinators Conference/Workshop, Bolger Center, Potomac, MD, June 26 - 29, 2006.

Impact/Purpose:

to present information

Description:

Since it's creation in 1985, the Pathogen Equivalency Committee (PEC) has been reviewing novel sludge disinfection technologies with regards to their abilities to protect human health and the environment. The PEC is charged to make recommendations on whether these novel technologies provide equivalent protection to those technologies already included in the appropriate regulations. Currently, the PCE has several active technology verification projects. An update on seven such projects is provided. The first draft of the PEC website was released for internal review in June 2005. Since then some significant revisions have been developed. Differences between the two drafts are presented. Following a second internal review starting in August the final version of the drafts are presented. Following a second internal review starting in August the final version of the PEC website is expected to be rolled out to the public by October. Finally, in-house NRMRL resesarch on biosolids stability and vector attraction reduction options in anaerobically treated sludge is currently underway at the City of Fairfield Wastewater Treatment Plant in Ohio. Objectives, methods, and some preliminary results of this study are shared.
