Description:

The draft "Overview" report from the U.S. National Assessment was released today for a 60-day public comment period. The report, entitled "Climate Change Impacts on the United States: The Potential Consequences of Climate Variability and Change" was written by the National Assessment Synthesis Team (a FACA committee). A Federal Register notice has been issued announcing the public comment period, and the report is available at the following website: http://www.gcrio.org/NationalAssessment/ The National Assessment process is coordinated by the U.S. Global Change Research Program (USGCRP) and mandated under the Global Change Research Act of 1990. As a member of the USGCRP, the EPA's Global Change Research Program has made significant contributions to the first National Assessment report. EPA is sponsoring the Mid-Atlantic Regional Assessment, the Great Lakes Regional Assessment, the Gulf Coast Regional Assessment, and the Health Sector Assessment. These assessments are being conducted through public-private partnerships that actively engage researchers from the academic community, decision makers, resource managers, and other affected stakeholders in the assessment process.
