Description:

MEPOP250 depicts Maine's 1950-1990 population data by town or Census in unorganized territories. Populations were compiled from US Census Bureau data where available or from Maine Municipal Information (mainly for older records). Unorganized towns with very low or zero population are reported together in County Census Divisions(CCDs) by the US Census Bureau. The boundaries of these County Census Divisions are coincident with townlines, rivers, and/or roads. MEPOP250 represents these boundaries as best as possible using either townlines from the METWP250 coverage, rivers from the HYDRO coverage, or roads from the TRANS coverage. To avoid confusion when summing populations internal town polygons have been removed from County Census Division polygons. For more detailed Census data see the TIGER coverages.
