CONNECTICUT STREAMS

Description:

This is a 1:24,000-scale datalayer of named streams in Connecticut. It includes two Shapefiles with line and polygon features. Both Shapefiles should be used together. The polygon shapefile fills in open water streams such as the Connecticut River as well as Long Island Sound. The line shapefile includes single line streams as well as the shoreline for the larger streams represented as polygons in the other shapefile. Each single line stream and polygon is assigned a stream number. This datalayer is based on the lakes, ponds, streams, and rivers that appear on the U.S. Geological Survey (USGS) 7½ minute topographic quadrangle maps that cover the State of Connecticut. The stream boundary information is derived from the hydrography datalayer, which is based on the USGS Digital Line Graph Files (DLG) for the 1:24,000 scale Connecticut quadrangle maps published between 1969 and 1984. This datalayer does not include all of the streams on the USGS topgraphic 7½ minute quadrangle maps. It is intended to be used with the named lakes datalayer for a simple representation of waterbodies. To represent all waterbodies on the USGS 7½ minute topographic quadrangle maps, use the hydrography datalayer. EPA obtained this data from the State of Connecticut.
