SUPPLEMENTAL RISK ANALYSIS FOR POTENTIAL AIR EMISSIONS FROM THE PROPOSED CONFINED DISPOSAL FACILITY FOR THE INDIANA HARBOR AND SHIPPING CANAL SEDIMENT DREDGING AND DISPOSAL PROJECT
Impact/Purpose:
The Supplemental Risk Assessment is intended: (1) to provide additional information regarding potential exposures from the CDF; (2) to be used as a predictive tool to evaluate potential risks from proposed future CDF operations and (3) to serve as a basis for recommending additional CDF emission controls and mitigation measures, if necessary.
Description:
In 1995, EPA completed a risk assessment for potential air emissions from the operation of a proposed confined disposal facility (CDF) to be constructed and operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for dredged sediments from the Indiana Harbor and Shipping Canal in East Chicago, Indiana. In 2002, to respond to public concerns, EPA agreed to perform an additional risk assessment to supplement the existing study.
