Citation:

ACQUISTO, B. NEW SLUDGE DISINFECTION TECHNOLOGIES IN THE LITERATURE AND PEC APPLICATIONS. Presented at First Annual Retreat of the Pathogen Equivalency Committee, Cincinnati, OH, September 20 - 21, 2005.

Description:

Since it's creation in 1985, the Pathogen Equivalency Committee (PEC), has been reviewing novel sludge disinfection technologies and their abilities to protect human health and the environment. In the past several years many new disinfection technologies have surfaced not only in the PEC applications, but in the scientific literature as well. This presentation reviews the traditional disinfection technologies detailed in the applicable regulations and shows how the new technologies build upon current knowledge. Disinfection technologies are categorized based on their underlying mode of disinfection: physical, chemical, or biological. Overall, five traditional disinfection methods and eleven new disinfection methods are presented.
