Description:
SMARTe (Sustainable Management Approaches and Revitalization Tools-electribuc) is an open-source, web-based, decision-support system for developing and evaluating alternative reuse scenarios for potentially contaminated sites (e.g., brownfields). It is being developed collaboratively under a bilateral working group co-led by the U.S. EPA and the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research. SMARTe is being developed over a period of several years using a phased approach. First, information resources, links and best practices are collected and updated on an annual basis. Second, electronic analysis tools and templates are prepared so that a user can input scenario-specific information and evaluate different aspects of the revitalization process. Third, the analysis tools and information are integrated into a multi-criteria decision analysis framework to allow users to change inputs and evaluate different scenarios. This final phase will not be completed until 2007; however, each year, SMARTe versions are released which contain new information and analysis tools. For this presentation, SMARTe 2005 will be demonstrated which is scheduled for release in October 2005.
