National Health Interview Survey-Disability Survey was developed to collect data that can be used to understand disability, to develop public health policy, to produce simple prevalence estimates of selected health conditions, and to provide descriptive baseline statistics on the effects of disabilities. It was designed as an effort to meet the data needs of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) which was signed into law in July 1990.
