PREGNANCY RISK ASSESSMENT MONITORING SYSTEM (PRAMS)

Description:

PRAMS, the Pregnancy Risk Assessment Monitoring System, is an ongoing state-specific population based surveillance system of the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and state health departments designed to improve the health of mothers and infants by reducing adverse outcomes such as low birth weight, infant mortality and maternal illness, and is funded through the Infant Health Initiative. The overall goal of the PRAMS is to provide a basis for improved policies and programs that reduce infant mortality and morbidity by changing women's high-risk behaviors during the peri-conception and perinatal periods.
