DIALYSIS SURVEILLANCE NETWORK

Description:

A voluntary national surveillance system monitoring bloodstream and vascular infections. This is a yearly survey, done in collaboration with the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) that collects data on infection control practices, and the frequency of certain dialysis-associated diseases and complications, among approximately 3,000 centers serving chronic hemodialysis patients. The network provides a method for vascular access infections, other bacterial infections, and intravenous antimicrobial starts. The surveillance also provides comparison rates among the various dialysis centers.
