PEDIATRIC NUTRITION SURVEILLANCE SYSTEM (PEDNSS)

Description:

The Pediatric Nutrition Surveillance System (PedNSS) is a program-based surveillance system designed to monitor the growth, anemia, and breast-feeding status of low-income U.S. children who participate in federally funded maternal and child health nutritional programs. The system is intended to describe trends and patterns of key indicators of child nutritional status so that information can be used for program planning, targeting, and evaluation and for the development of appropriate health and nutrition interventions. Information from PedNSS is also used to monitor progress towards the year 2000 national health objectives for the United States. Technical assistance is provided by the Centers for Diseases Control and Prevention (CDC).
