METROPOLITAN ATLANTA CONGENITAL DEFECTS PROGRAM (MACDP)

Description:

The Metropolitan Atlanta Congenital Defects Program (MACDP) was established in 1967 by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention with Emory University and the Georgia Mental Health Institute as the nation's first population-based active ascertainment birth defects surveillance program. It was created in the aftermath of the thalidomide tragedy to provide early warning in the increases in the prevalence of defects at birth.
