Description:

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Superfund Innovative Technology Evaluation (SITE) Program, now in its fifth year, serves several purposes, including (1) the development and implementation of innovative treatment technologies for hazardous waste remediation and (2) the development and implementation of monitoring and measurement technologies for evaluating the nature and extent of hazardous waste site contamination. The SITE Program was established in response to the1986 Superfund Amendments and Reauthorization Act (SARA), which recognized a need for an "Alternative or Innovative Treatment Technology Research and Demonstration Program." The SITE Program is administered by EPA's Office of Research and Development and consists of four interrelated programs: • Demonstration Program • Emerging Technologies Program • Monitoring and Measurement Technologies Program • Technology Transfer Program This update bulletin, developed as a part of the Technology Transfer Program, highlights progress over the past year under the Demonstration, Emerging Technologies, and Monitoring and Measurement Technologies Programs. It also focuses on new technologies and significant events since the November 1990 SITE Technology Profiles (EPA/540/5-90/006) document was published. Further opportunities for technology transfer are provided at the back of this bulletin.
