Description:

The primary objective of these tests was to demonstrate the effectiveness of incineration as a decontamination method for explosives contaminated sails. A pilot-scale rotary kiln incinerator, manufactured by ThermAll, Inc., was used to treat both sandy and clayey soils which had been contaminated by wastewater from explosives production and demilitarization. The test was performed at Savanna Army Depot Activity (SADA), Illinois, the sandy soils came from SADA and the clayey soils were shipped in from the Louisiana Army Ammunition Plant (LAAP), Louisiana.
