Description:

GIS/Key™ is a comprehensive environmental database management system that integrates site data and graphics, enabling the user to create geologic cross-sections; boring logs; potentiometric, isopleth, and structure maps; summary tables; and hydrographs. GIS/Key™ is menu-driven and can be used to collect, report, and analyze site data. The software includes comprehensive quality assurance/quality control protocols. The demonstration of the GIS/Key™ software was a departure from the normal type of evaluation in that it involved a data management system, not a hardware system. Two Visitor’s days were held: in San Francisco and in Washington D.C. During each Visitor’s Day the software was demonstrated and third-party vendors explained and demonstrated how their software related to GIS/Key™. Specific functions and capabilities evaluated included new project setup, map management, data entry screens, data import routines, data integrity checks, data validation, data queries, contouring, calculations, hardware configurations, training, and documentation and support services. The evaluation found GIS/Key™ to be an effective way to prepare the variety of maps, graphs, tables, cross sections, and logs typically necessary for characterizing a hazardous waste site.
