SARASOTA BAY NATIONAL ESTUARY PROGRAM, A FRAMEWORK FOR ACTION

Citation:

Sarasota Bay National Estuary Program. SARASOTA BAY NATIONAL ESTUARY PROGRAM, A FRAMEWORK FOR ACTION. U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Washington, D.C.

Description:

Sarasota Bay: Framework for Action was produced by the Sarasota Bay National Estuary Program to characterize the condition of Sarasota Bay and present preliminary options for Bay improvement. The publication is a precursor to the CCMP. Past destruction of sea grasses and mangroves and continuing pollution from wastewater and stormwater present major challenges for the Bay. Scientists report on indicators - water and sediments, fish and shellfish, sea grasses and mangroves to define the Bay's problems. With the involvement of area residents and concerted effort by local, state and federal governments, a better balance between human uses and the health of Sarasota Bay can be achieved. The area's economy and its residents' quality of life depend largely upon the community's success.
