Description:

The 2002 Buzzards Bay Implementation Review (IR) summarizes the progress and challenges ahead for the Buzzards Bay Project. Major new completed actions during the past two years include: designation of Buzzards Bay as a no discharge area in August 2000; full support by the Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection for the alternative septic system program, including funding of the Septic System Test Center established by the Buzzards Bay Project, and full staffing of their program by 2001; Completion in November 2001 by the Buzzards Bay Action Committee of the updated and revised municipal oil spill contingency plan for Buzzards bay and its acceptance by the US Coast Guard Completion in 2000 by the Executive Office of Environmental Affairs of a buildout analysis of all Buzzards Bay municipalities. Specific sections of the IR include: Status of CCMP implementation; Analysis of the "Action Plans" including Managing Nitrogen-Sensitive Embayments, Managing ON-site Wastewater disposal Systems, Protecting and Enhancing Shellfish Resources, Controlling Stormwater Runoff, Managing Sewage from Boats, Managing Sewage Treatment Facilities, Reducing Toxic Pollution, Preventing Oil Pollution, Protecting Wetlands and Coastal Habitat, and the Pollution Remediation Project in New Bedford; Land Use Management; Resources and Financing; and Institutional Coordination and Public Participation.
