Impact/Purpose:

An in-depth justification for proposed changes in current protocols for toxicity testing.

Description:

This document takes a life stages approach to the assessment of risk attributable to crop protection products, and well-known experts in the field are contributing authors. The paper presents an in-depth justification for proposed changes in current protocols for toxicity testing, and the information is organized and well presented in text, tables, and figures. The authors have succeeded not only in integrating non-life-stage related toxicity testing with life-stage toxicity testing but also in providing the reader with perspective on the benefits of the updated protocols for life-stage toxicity such as for multigenerational studies. Notably, a tiered approach is described and well documented. For example, Tier II studies would be triggered or not triggered by results of Tier I protocols potentially resulting in shorter studies and savings in time, funds, and animals.
