SCIENTIFIC ASSESSMENT OF THE CAUSES OF THE FORMATION AND PERSISTENCE OF HYPOXIC CONDITIONS IN THE GULF OF MEXICO
Citation:
Impact/Purpose:
To assess whether the most recent scientific evidence supports or suggests revisions to the earlier assessment.
Description:
The Hypoxia Action Plan, developed in 2001, is a voluntary management plan that lays out a strategy to reduce the size of the hypoxic zone in the Gulf of Mexico. The Action Plan is based on a 2000 Integrated Science Assessment of the causal agents and mechanisms that contribute to the formation and persistence of hypoxia. The Mississippi River/Gulf of Mexico Watershed Nutrient (Hypoxia) Task Force is requesting an expert panel to review available scientific information and provide a report that synthesizes the current state of knowledge of the causes of Gulf hypoxia.
