Sunrise of PFAS Replacements - The Case of Fluorine-free Foams (F3)

Citation:

Ibrahim, Mohamed Ateia. Sunrise of PFAS Replacements - The Case of Fluorine-free Foams (F3). 2023 AEESP Research and Education Conference, Boston, MA, June 20 - 23, 2023.

Impact/Purpose:

Overview of planned activities on PFAS replacements in firefighting foams.  Overview of ongoing F3 research. Investigating the impacts of novel PFAS-free AFFF on environmental and human health is necessary to ensure they are safer, sustainable, and environmentally responsible. Little available/accessible information about the new alternatives leaves many questions unknown regarding their compositions and their environmental impacts. Proactive studies are needed to generate data on the detection, fate, treatability, and toxicty of the replacement chemical candidates.

Description:

This presentation was previously cleared and presented to ECOS and ASTHO. Overview on planned experiments on assessment of PFAS alternatives.  Overview of ongoing F3 research. Investigating the impacts of novel PFAS-free AFFF on environmental and human health is necessary to ensure they are safer, sustainable, and environmentally responsible.
