Impact/Purpose:

The presentation presents the state of the science and technologies developed by the USEPA on understanding the human health risks associated with waterborne transmission of Toxoplasma gondii oocyts.  Specifically, the presentation provides the audience the methods developed to detect the environmental form of T. gondii (oocysts) in our waters as well as the parasites ability to resist various chemical and ultraviolet irradiation approaches currently being used by drinking and wastewater utilities throughout the US.

Description:

The purpose of this lecture is to provide current state of the science with regards to waterborne protozoa. It describes the biology and human health significance of Toxoplasma gondii.
