Description:
Current federal regulations (40CFR 503) specify that under certain conditions treated municipal biosolids must be analyzed for fecal coliform or salmonellae. The regulations state that representative samples of biosolids must be collected and analyzed using standard methods. This presentation discusses how samples should be collected and analyzed for fecal coliform or salmonellae. Sampling safety, aseptic technique, representative sample collection and sample preservation techniques are discussed. Fecal coliform analysis using the most probable number technique will be addressed with special emphasis on how to compute most probable numbers of fecal coliform per dry weight gram.
