| Title: South Dakota: Mid-Dakota Rural Water System, Inc. |
| Subtitle: Regional Steering Committee Protects Surface Water for System |
| Case Study Type:
Protection
|
| Description: Major threats to the surface water supply of the Mid-Dakota Rural Water System include underground and above ground storage tanks, an irrigation system, septic tanks, and a machine shop. A SWP Steering Committee representing the water system and Hughs and Stanley counties intends to meet at least annually to review the effectiveness and implementation of the SWP plan. The SWP plan recommends that PWS staff review the cross connection control program and conservation plan, and annually review contingency planning documents. The plan also recommends that the system work with Hughes and Stanley counties to develop a manure loading management plan and to discuss the need for septic tank regulations. It also recommends public education on the benefits of SWP planning. |
