Inter-Site Comparison of Ambient Aerosols in the Houston Area During Texaqs-2000

Abstract: During the late summer of 2000 (8/15 - 9/15/00), the Texas Air Quality Study - 2000 (TEXAQS-2000) was conducted to improve understanding of the factors that control the formation and transport of air pollutants along the Gulf Coast of southeastern Texas. An international team of scientists used a variety of real-time and 24-hour averaged instruments to characterize ambient aerosols at three specific sites. The three sites (LaPorte, HMR3, Aldine) where chosen to characterize the nearby petrochemical refineries that line the shipping channel between Galveston Bay and central Houston. The main focus will be the inter-site comparison of over 60 non-polar semi-volatile organic species collected with a high capacity Integrated Organic Gas and Particle (HiC IOGAP) sampler.
