| Abstract |
This report discusses the transport of a group of reactive tracers over the course of a large-scale, natural gradient tracer test conducted at the USGS Cape Cod Toxic Substances Hydrology Research site, near Falmouth, Massachusetts. The overall objectives of the experiment were to demonstrate the importance of variable aquifer chemistry on chemical reactions, including aqueous specification changes, during transport of toxic elements in groundwater (chromate, and four meals complexed with the organic ligand EDTA: Pb, Cu, Zn, Ni). In addition, the field experiment was designed to collect enough data to investigate the problem of modeling flow coupled with chemical reactions with a view towards simplification of the geochemical reaction network. |
