Abstract A preliminary study was performed to evaluate the potential formation and persistence of tetrachlorodibenzo-p-dioxins (TCDDs) and tetrachlorodibenzo furans (TCDFs) in the effluent streams of a fluidized bed system used for thermal reactivation of granular activated carbon (GAC) that had been used for treating Cincinnati, Ohio municipal drinking water.
