| Abstract |
In the summer of 1974, a study was undertaken to establish the effect of refinery emissions on the air quality of a region. The refinery studied was operated by Texaco in Lawrenceville, Illinois. Air sampling was conducted from a ground based trailer and from aircraft. Results showed that the plume was readily detectable as far as 25 miles downwind. No increase in ozone was observed downwind of the refinery, porbably because of the low reactivity of the hydrocarbons (most alkanes) and the very low levels of nitrogen oxides. |
